Kyrgyz Republic’s Minister of Energy Met with Technical Mission of the Kambarata-1 HPP Project Donor Coordination Committee

From October 7–11, 2024, a technical delegation from the Donor Coordination Committee for the Kambarata-1 Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) project visited the Kyrgyz Republic. This Committee was established during the International Energy Investment Forum of the Kyrgyz Republic, held in Vienna in June 2024, with the aim of advancing the energy sector development and attracting investments into clean energy projects in Kyrgyzstan.

The technical mission visited the Kambarata-1 HPP site to review the project's preparation progress. Several meetings were held with Minister of Energy Taalaibek Ibraev and other senior government officials, as well as representatives from the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, to discuss the status of the project and the next steps for further collaboration. A mechanism for regular consultations and data exchange was also developed to ensure effective cooperation moving forward.

The technical mission from the Donor Coordination Committee for the Kambarata-1 HPP project included representatives from the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the European Union, the European Investment Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Representatives from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the OPEC Fund for International Development participated remotely in key meetings.

This joint technical mission marked a significant step forward in the implementation of the Kambarata-1 HPP project, aimed at strengthening cooperation in Central Asia in the field of water and energy resource management.
